My father decided that I would be better off going to school here, so I enrolled in the local high school in my new town. I was already confused because in India the teachers switch according to periods while most of the students have the same periods. I had traveled a long distance from India in order to join my mother, who had been here for three years, hoping America would help my future. On the first day, I went to my second period class after I had missed my first. The drawing teacher was highly pleased when I set aside my nervousness and drew the picture of a jug on the black board.
It was my mother who first thought of sending me to school. When my mother expressed it I thought that she was a heartless woman. Although I had heard about school, I had not visited it earlier.
My father took me to school which was an unknown place for me.
It is natural on the part of every student to remember the first day at school. The Headmaster was well known to my father and greeted him with a smile.
It gave me a terrible feeling of fear and anxiety as I went to school with my father. As a small child I could not feel stable at the sight of the building. My father introduced me to the Headmaster and requested him to admit me to the school.
First day at school is an experience which I cannot forget.
We entered the office where I found four men sitting behind the counter.
I studied here for three years but there was always a recollection of my first day in this school. The teacher introduced me as a new student in the class and showed me my seat. Everyone was dancing with their partners but I was sitting alone. I have learned that I have courage and strength and I will succeed this year ever if I am in someplace I don’t like.
This day was a memorable day for me, because I liked the school. She studied the admission form quickly she expressed satisfaction regarding my age to and my parent’s qualifications. I thought someone would come and say ‘hello’ to me. No one has taken the time here to get to know me or like me. At last, I found my class and found two of the teachers actually impressed me, which surprised me; I didn’t think anyone in the whole school would impress me.
With anxiety on one hand and fear on the other, I reached for the door knob, opening it slowly. Without paying attention to them, I went straight to the teacher and asked if this was the right class.
With a soft voice he answered, “Yes.” His voice comforted me a little.
