The course is delivered by a mixture of professional writers and academics who prepare you for the realities of a hugely competitive market.You will learn how to prepare manuscripts, to approach publishers, and, increasingly important, to market yourself.Our challenging, practice-based course offers you a unique approach to the practice of writing, emphasising innovation and experimentation in your work.
Along with your application you will be asked to submit examples of your creative writing, either two short stories (up to 2,500 words each), six poems (up to 12 pages) or a script (up to 10 pages).
Those who complete the PGCert can choose to transfer to the second year of our part time MA. There is no application closing date for this course.
Our creative writing teaching team has a breadth of experience in the literatures of different cultures and different forms.
Our current teaching staff include poet and short story writer Philip Terry, lyric writer and essayist Adrian May, novelist and camper Matthew de Abaitua, poet and performance-writer Holly Pester, poet, fisherman and memoirist Chris Mc Cully, and award-winning playwrights Elizabeth Kuti and Jonathan Lichtenstein.
This will invigorate your own practice, whether you are writing psychogeography, plays, novels, stories or something else.
