Don’t be afraid to dig deep and talk about something that may feel vulnerable.Try to conclude with an example of how the failure improved the way you deal with similar situations now.Below are essay prompts for the 2019 Common Application and the Coalition Application.

From the Common Application press release: “Based on extensive counselor feedback, the existing essay prompts provide great flexibility for applicants to tell their unique stories in their own voice.” Take a look at the prompts and see what you think, but don’t feel you should start writing anytime soon (today is March 23rd). The earliest most students will have to submit essays is November 1st – though please be mindful of earlier submissions!The college application process can be stressful and sometimes overwhelming.A great way to stand out from the crowd and boost an application for a “reach” school is with a strong essay.We’ve put together a list of common prompts and advice for how to answer them.For this essay, try finding a part of your identity that will set you apart and highlight the unique perspective you will bring to the university.As part of the Common Application, you will be asked to write one essay between 250 and 650 words. You will be asked to write a response to your choice of one of the five prompts listed below.This essay is designed to demonstrate your ability to write clearly and concisely and help you set your application apart.If you finish your essay in April, when you look at it again in October, seven months later, you might feel it no longer captures what you want to convey about yourself.For the time being, just read them over and see what you think.It can be uncomfortable for anyone to admit they’re less-than-great at something, but that honesty can be refreshing, especially if you tell your story in an authentic, relatable way.In this essay, choose a time that you were able to listen to experiences and perspectives contrary to yours with respect and maturity.
