All first-year applicants will complete a few Yale-specific short answer questions.

These required questions are slightly different based on the application platform an applicant chooses.

Visit the Common Application site or the Coalition Application site when you’re actually ready to apply online.

Think outside the box as you answer the following questions. Be serious if the moment calls for it, but feel comfortable being playful if that suits you, too. Please respond to of the following three questions. And with over 5,000 undergraduate students on our campus, that is over 5,000 stories to share and learn. Applicants to the BFA or 5-Year BFA BA/BS Combined Degree at the SMFA at Tufts answer the following two questions: 1. Art has the power to disrupt our preconceptions, shape public discourse, and imagine new ways of being in the world.

Applicants to the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and 5-Year Tufts/NEC Combined Degree answer the following two questions: 1. (200-250 words): A) From recognizing break dancing as a new Olympic sport, to representation in media, to issues of accessibility in our public transit systems, what is something that you can talk about endlessly? B) Whether you've built circuit boards or written slam poetry, created a community event or designed mixed media installations, tell us: What have you designed, invented, engineered, or produced? Which aspects of the Tufts undergraduate experience prompt your application? Whether you think of Ai Weiwei’s work reframing the refugee crisis, Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald’s portraits of the Obamas reimagining portrait painting on a national scale, or Yayoi Kusama’s fanciful Infinity Mirrors rekindling our sense of wonder, it is clear that contemporary art is driven by ideas.

Be honest, be open, be authentic—this is your opportunity to connect with us.You should certainly be thoughtful about your essays, but if you’re thinking too much—spending a lot of time stressing or strategizing about what makes you “look best,” as opposed to the answers that are honest and easy—you’re doing it wrong.For example, when you search for a film, we use your search information and location to show the most relevant cinemas near you.We also use this information to show you ads for similar films you may like in the future.Therefore, any responses to the following questions will be shared with the Honors College. We are interested in learning more about your interests and how you have been involved and/or served. Were you able to influence others and/or influence decisions for the good of the group? Did this situation cause any change to happen based on this event and did you have a role in that change? Describe an example of a situation where you have significantly influenced others, took on a leadership role, helped resolve a dispute, or contributed to a group’s goals.Briefly describe a group, organization, or community that you have been involved with. What was your role, what responsibilities did you take on?The 2019-2020 Yale-specific questions for the Coalition Application, Common Application, and Quest Bridge Application are detailed below.Applicants applying with the Quest Bridge Application will complete the questions above via the Yale Quest Bridge Questionnaire, available on the Yale Admissions Status Portal after an application has been received.
