The Bachelors of Fine Arts program at Penn State Behrend is the only undergraduate creative writing major in the Penn State system, and one of only a handful of such programs in the region. Two Sonnenberg Awards will be awarded for poetry, and two Smith Scholarships will be awarded for fiction. You also will be able to consult with and hear presentations from celebrated visiting writers and participate in a variety of other on-campus literary events.
In its existence, it has graduated writers who are finding success placing their work with publishers, earning fellowships and assistantships at top-notch graduate writing programs, and building careers in publishing, editing, higher education, and other related fields. in Creative Writing Program can apply for four different $500 scholarships/awards made possible by the Kenneth J.
The award is based on the quality of their novel or collection of several short stories, presented anonymously.
OPEN to MFA prose writers completing their degrees only.
Should you earn your degree in less than eight semesters, you are no longer eligible to receive this award.

This scholarship, in combination with other resources (such as scholarships, grants, Veterans Benefits or employer-provided tuition benefits), may not exceed your Cost of Attendance (as determined by the college) for any given award year.If you lose your scholarship for any semester(s) due to such circumstances as a non-qualifying GPA, resources exceeding Cost of Attendance, a third semester of off-campus study or temporary enrollment at another institution, these semesters of eligibility are forfeited and not available for use at a later time.If you’re a writer—fiction, non-fiction, or fanfiction—you can put those skills to work for you.There are tons of writing contests for high school students, which can award everything from medals to cash prizes to scholarships if you win.The writing sample and essay are the most important factors in the selection process.Your previous academic record is not as important as your future promise and ability to express yourself with words.
